Camping Out

Well, I have been on weekend trauma call all weekend and thanks to the generosity of my daughter Paige and her husband they let me use their trailer to stay in. I am required to be to the hospital dressed and ready to work in 30 minutes and I just happen to live on the wrong side of Rigby to be able to accomplish that. So, I have parked the trailer in the EIRMC RV parking lot and it works out great because Rob can stay with me. The hospital has sleep rooms for our use, but he can't stay with me there. We have been camping out since Friday night and I started my next grandkid blanket for Saren. There are so many cute quilts out there but I am a newbie so I had to do as simple as possible. For all you quilters out there I am doing the "Yellow Brick Road". It will be lapsize when I am finished and well, let's just say that I didn't understand the directions as I sewed up the strips. It will work out because I still have 35 blocks, it just won't look like the pattern. It is my interpretation of "Yellow Brick Road".(haha) I have also learned that sewing on minkie is not the easiest for a beginner to sew on. I think the next blanket will be just cotton/flannel, then maybe I will have perfect seams. It is still fun and I am learning alot. Well I better get back to my sewing, I will post pictures as soon as possible.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you what the Stake President wanted. They have called Rob to be the 1st Assistant to the High Priest Group Leader. He was thrilled it was not the Leader. He said he didn't want to be responsible for making decisions, he only wants to help.

Another update on the basketball team. We finally won a game after a four game losing streak. We beat Skyline Friday night. We really needed the win. We were in last place in our conference. In the six years I have been involved with the basketball team we have never been last place. There was only one year we didn't go to the State Tournament. In a best case scenario we could end up in a four way tie for first. Wish us luck and pray for us (LOL) for the rest of the season. We really need to go to State. (Maybe then Rob can retire.)

Too Excited For Words

I am so thrilled. I went to see the best ever orthopaedic surgeon in the world yesterday for a follow-up appt and I asked him if I could go skiing. HE SAID YES, HE DIDN'T SEE WHY NOT! I will have to take it easy but I can go SKIING! I also asked him why it still hurts, and guess what?
He doesn't have an answer for me. He also wrote me a RX for more physical therapy because I would like to get the muscles around my knee stronger. If any of you bloggers out there know any good exercises that I could do pass them along. Also, my goal of making the grandkiddos blankets for their birthdays will continue on as I go and purchase material for the next one. Saren turns 8 on February 7th so Porter's here I come. I asked one of the nurses I work with about binding a quilt with bias binding and she gave me some pointers. We will see how this next one goes. Sorry Kaden for getting the test blanket. I love you anyway!

Another thing I would like to blog about is my quest for health. I have lost 3 pounds and am more committed to an exercise plan. I need to get 2 more exercise days in this week so I hope my schedule will cooperate.

Those of you who want to know how Kory is doing on his mission well here you will find the 4-1-1. As of now, he is on an island called Kosrae (it is pronounced like coasrye). It is one of the islands of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is called the "sleeping lady". He has been there since the first week in November and has had to learn the language of the island, Kosraean (coasryan). He says it is coming along. A couple of weeks ago his backpack was stolen out of their car. He was pretty discouraged with losing his camera and pictures, scriptures and its highlights, the church DVD player and other things. Well, the next week they got a tip on where it might be. They followed the tip and was able to retrieve all but the memory card from his camera. They still keep after the people who took the camera to hopefully get the memory cards back. He has had some success with about 4 baptisms already. The last couple of people even asked him to do the baptizing for them. He has had some awesome experiences in just a few short months. He has even had to dig his first grave and bury his first person. He says the food is "interesting" and has learned to tolerate hair in his food, bugs crawling on his plate and even ONIONS! It is such a blessing to have a missionary in the mission field. We continue to be proud of his work, example and committment. Well how is that for using my blog to keep people posted. It is actually quite fun. I may have to post pictures of my work because that is what my life is about (it seems that way).

My New Goal

Last November I was thinking that I wanted to make blankets for my grandkids but knew that I didn't have time to get them done in time for Christmas. So, I decided to make them a blanket/quilt for their birthdays since I would only need to make them one at a time. I finished my first one today and I need a lesson on binding with a bias binding. I tend to get bored with projects that take too long and don't have the patience I need to do an excellent job. It is still cute and I made a pillow case to match. I just needed help with the corners. Kami told me that she wanted Kaden to get something that she could use to help him learn his ABC's and so I got him some alphabet flashcards, a workbook, and made this ABC quilt. It is pieced and everything. By the time I make Leah's quilt for her birthday maybe I will be a pro.

Long time no see!

I have gotten the bug to try and get my blog up and running. I am hoping I can figure out how to get a cute layout. The holidays were great even with Rob having surgery on New Year's Eve. We found out his gallbladder wasn't working on the 3oth at 3:45, called a surgeon and scheduled surgery at 4:45, and had surgery the 31st at 9:00. He did remarkably well and even went to basketball practice on the 1st. What a stud! We are in a new ward as a result of some new boundaries and the first time we were at Sunday School it turned into a debate session. Then we heard that there was more controversy the following week (we were out of town helping Kyle and Jess get settled into their new home). Yesterday we went to the other Gospel Doctrine class and it was very enjoyable. The instructor kept to the scriptures and there was no controversy. We then met with the Bishop for a get-to-know you interview and later went to a FHE group for empty-nesters (boomerangers don't count as kids at home). While at FHE, Rob got a call and we are to meet with the Stake President Tuesday night. Hmm . . . I wonder what he has in mind.
